Studio? Shed? With plenty of north facing windows and a supply of electricity to feed the vital heater and music system, the garden tools have been (mostly) evicted to make way for the clutter of the painter. By artist standards I am a paragon of tidiness.
Who we are is often where we are. I am not one of those who feels the call of the distant and exotic. I find myself returning to familiar places; like safe ports in a stormy sea they are the anchorages of what makes me who I am.
People are a challenge, because you have to capture more than a likeness. Think of a portrait as a still image that contains the motion of a movie and the insight of long familiarity. The viewer needs to know the subject at a glance.
